What is the Medical Direct Pathway?
A Defined Pathway from UWindsor to Medical School
The Medical Direct Pathway Program provides eligible University of Windsor students with the opportunity to work toward conditional acceptance into the Doctor of Medicine program at the American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM).
This pathway is designed for students pursuing undergraduate studies who want a structured route toward medical school while completing their education at UWindsor.
How the Pathway Works
Students begin their undergraduate education at the University of Windsor and complete the academic milestones required for eligibility into ACSOM’s Doctor of Medicine program.
Step 1: Begin at UWindsor
Start an undergraduate program at the University of Windsor.
Step 2: Complete Prerequisites
Finish designated prerequisite courses and complete a minimum of two years of undergraduate study.
Step 3: Meet Academic Requirements
Maintain a minimum 80% average (3.5 GPA equivalent).
Step 4: Apply to ACSOM
Complete the MD Direct Program application after Year 2. Admissions are not guaranteed.
Program Highlights
The Medical Direct Pathway Program allows eligible University of Windsor students to complete a minimum of two years of undergraduate study while following a defined pathway toward the American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) Doctor of Medicine program. Students must complete designated prerequisite courses, maintain a minimum 80% overall average (3.5 GPA equivalent), and apply to the MD Direct Pathway following their second year of study. Students who successfully complete ACSOM’s MD program also qualify to receive an undergraduate degree from the University of Windsor. Please note that spaces in the pathway are limited, and admission to ACSOM’s MD program is not guaranteed, as applicants must successfully complete the interview process and meet all admission requirements

About the American Canadian School of Medicine
The American Canadian School of Medicine (ACSOM) is an international medical school located in Picard-Portsmouth, on the beautiful Caribbean island of Dominica. ACSOM offers a North American–focused Doctor of Medicine (MD) program designed to prepare future physicians for residency and clinical practice in Canada and the United States. The curriculum is built around an integrated, patient-centered approach that combines foundational medical sciences with early clinical exposure, emphasizing critical thinking, evidence-based medicine, professionalism, and compassionate patient care.
