Dr. Dixon joined the Department of Kinesiology in the area of Sport Management and Leadership in 2006. He teaches classes in sport management, sport finance, human resource management, and strategic management. From 2009 through 2015, he led seminars on sport leadership to students in International Sport Business at the Johan Cruyff University in Amsterdam, NL. Dr. Dixon’s primary research and scholarly interests are in strategic management, executive leadership, human resource management, and relative age effects in sport, as well as sport management pedagogy. Dr. Dixon is an award-winning teacher and student mentor, having received the Distinguished Sport Management Educator Award from the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM®) in 2024, the Wayne Marino Faculty of Human Kinetics Teaching Excellence Award in 2019 and the Excellence in Mentoring Award from the University of Windsor Alumni Association in 2016. He was also the recipient of the University of Windsor’s Excellence in Leadership Award in 2022.
He is currently an Associate Editor of Frontiers in Sports and Active Living – Sports Management, Marketing, and Economics, and Emeritus Editor-in-chief (2016-2019) of Case Studies in Sport Management, a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes teaching case studies related to the sport management discipline. Dr. Dixon also previously served as Chair (2018-2020) of the Sport Management Research Collective (SMRC) and as a Member-at-Large (2015-2017) on the Executive Council of NASSM. Prior to taking over as Head of the Department of Kinesiology (2019-present), he served as Kinesiology Graduate Program Coordinator (2017-2019). He also previously served as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Human Kinetics (2020-2021) and Special Advisor to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, for return to campus planning (2021-2022).
